5 Web Design Trends of a Modern Digital World

The digital world changes fast, and website design trends are no different. Design features that were once innovative and modern have become overdone, outdated, and clichéd. The last thing you would want is user to arrive at your website and lose conversion as your site looks outdated or is lacking when it comes to modern web design standards. The design of your website is responsible for 95% of a user’s first impression of your service or business, simply put, innovative designs help you to escalate sales numbers. Keep reading for five modern web design trends that you can implement in order to design unique websites.

1. Increased focus on UX/UI

Modernistic web design focuses on human interactions, and this trend is becoming more critical by every passing day. A site's UX must be sleek, smooth, uninterrupted, as well as user engaging. It should load a fast page, show less clutter, be rich in multimedia, and have relevant SEO content.

Web designers must pack functionality with creativity. The top web designers might throw a little untidiness into the white, spotless world of technology. A site’s user interface should be intuitive also. A top web designer should consider a strong UX/UI focused website to have features like voice-enabled searches, image captions, transcriptions of videos, and balanced motion design. A website must provide its visitors easy-to-read content and easy-to-use interfaces, with a sweet tooth of aesthetics.

2. Irregular Grid Layouts

Grid layouts are a feasible way of successfully displaying all the elements in web pages together, providing every page with a common theme and making it far easier for navigation. The design theory has always been there, but always shifting as per the trend. Many content management systems including platforms like the Inspired Works personal favourites of Webflow and WordPress, use grid design as a base template. A few years ago, the CSS grid was introduced for providing designers with more options.

As of recent trends, designers utilise more neutral space and more irregular grid layouts for an innovative design style. Minimal design styles that use whitespace make content to stand out. Making it far easier to read and navigate for the user. These styles are easier on the eyes and create less clutter, encouraging consumers to spend more time on site.

Without effective use of irregular grid layouts, the minimal design can often seem boring or bland.

3. Make Mobile a Priority

As of Statista, "In 2016, 43% of all website traffic worldwide was generated through mobile phones, up from 35.1 percent in the previous year." We now know that Mobile account for well over 50% of traffic in 2020, and its growing!

The importance of mobile-friendly web design cannot be denied. It has been increasing for years, and in 2018, Google rolled out its innovative Mobile-First Index, emphasising the mobile version of the site by ensuring it is seen in top search results. Therefore, your website must have a mobile-friendly interface or risk falling down the rankings.

Accelerated Mobile Pages (AMP) are also becoming more significant. It is an open-source coding standard that allows a quick load of sites on mobile. Traditional mobile sites are clunky; however, AMP inclines up the mobile experience by stripping code, utilising external resources for media files & running scripts in parallel that load pages instantly.

4. Bold Fonts & Bright Colours

For complementing modern web design trends, you require a type font that stands out. Bold font styles allow users to focus on content, while the whitespace keeps making it easier to read and skim through. You may not like it, but the world is full of users’ online skim-reading content, and as a designer, this trend needs to be openly considered.

Visitors typically spend a few seconds to a couple of minutes, surfing your pages. Meanwhile, it would help if you caught their attention. The ultimate goal is to design a smooth and enjoyable experience for keeping users on your site for as long as possible and eventually convert them into paying customers. We may also see these fonts and colours replacing images. That makes sense, particularly for mobile. Images usually slow down pages no matter what compression is used. It also makes sleeker lines on your page ensuring your calls-to-action pop!

5. Responsive Design

Responsive design is mainly less of a trend but a principle, and it has been around for several years. However, its significance cannot be overlooked. Essentially responsive design is when your site is designed in a way that it resizes for an appealing look across multiple portable screen sizes: i.e., mobile, tablets, TV, wearable, and desktops.

Although the UX revolution has been happening for almost a decade, it’s only been implemented recently on a larger scale. We expect this design element to continue expanding include new forms of technology like Augmented & Virtual Reality.
